STEM outreach for neurodiverse learners at the Craig School

The CeMi lab collaborated with the Craig School (TCS) in Irvine, CA, to develop educational modules focused on materials science and engineering for neurodiverse learners with ADHD and autism in grades 3-8.

This summer, we launched a one-hour pilot program at TCS, where we introduced how atoms and electrons are the building blocks of all materials and, we carried out hands-on demonstrations with the assistance of behavioral specialists at TCS. During the demonstrations, TCS students created their own paper circuits using graphite and visualized materials undergoing phase transformation using materials modeling visualization software we use for our research.

We thank everyone involved, including our students, teachers, and members of the Craig School, for making this exciting and fun day possible!
